PROJECTS

The work

Each of these came to us for the same reason, a house with real quality in it that had stopped working for the people living in it. Some are protected, some are not. What they have in common is the care they needed, not their age.

You will find each one in full, the building as it was given to us, what the client asked for, and what it is now.

Lucca, Tuscany

An apartment in a palazzo

“We are looking for a home where we can gather our family and friends.”

The client, at the first meeting

Set within the piano nobile of a sixteenth-century palazzo in Lucca, this project is a full renovation and furnishing of a historic apartment protected by the Belle Arti.

The work brings together architecture, interior design and bespoke furnishing across a series of generous rooms with frescoed ceilings, historic proportions and a strong existing identity.

Our approach is guided by restraint and clarity: understanding what already belongs to the building, what should be protected, and where contemporary interventions can quietly support the way the apartment will be lived in today.

The aim is not to make the palazzo feel new. It is to allow its history, atmosphere and scale to remain present, while introducing the comfort, function and calm needed for contemporary private life.

Geneva, Switzerland

A room between inside and outside

The brief was for a room that sits between inside and outside, one that feels like the garden but can be used in every month of the year, and the picture the owner gave us was a very precise one, a cigar on a Saturday afternoon with the bar inside the house still within reach.

It is not a conservatory and it is not a terrace. It is a proper room, shaded by a roof deep enough to keep the afternoon sun off it, and it belongs to the house rather than sitting against the front of it.
