What a pleasure to introduce to you the 6th edition of our newsletter. So many of you have started engaging with the recent editions and we would like to thank you for constructive feedback, thoughts and impressions. This edition encompasses the idea of happiness, how do we define happiness in the context of architecture and how can architecture and the built environment enhance people’s general sense of happiness ?

“Beauty is the promise of happiness” is the motto behind Alain de Botton’s 2006 “The Architecture of Happiness” which analyses human needs, wants and desires throughout history and how these elements are reflected into the architecture they cherish and identify with.

What Caught our Eye

Design is omnipresent and it is incredibly difficult in our current society to escape the idea of design, a designed product or a crafted piece of architecture. But how does design affect our lives ? What is the impact of bad design of our daily lives, on our well-being ? In this lecture Stefan Sagmeister looks at this question from the other end of the spectrum, how did design create moments in his life which brought a sense of happiness ?
