We delve into the profound significance of creating a public realm that not only accommodates but actively encourages the engagement of our elderly citizens. By crafting inclusive and vibrant public spaces, we aspire to foster a sense of belonging, purpose, and fulfillment for this invaluable demographic.

Central to our discussion is the critical challenge of loneliness, which affects a significant portion of the elderly population. We examine innovative approaches to tackle this  issue, seeking to create an environment that nurtures meaningful connections and social interaction.

What Caught our Eye

As the global population increases year after year, a significant element surrounding this continuous increase has been the topic of discussions between architects, policy makers, urbanists for several years now. We, as humans, live longer lives and we are active further into our later life. So how do we, as architects and placemakers, design for an aging population ? How do we create a community which champions inclusivity, an age-friendly community ?

Beth Finkel is State Director for the State of New York and has been recognised, amongst numerous others initiatives, for her work as an advocate for New York’s 50 plus population
